About the artist
Sandi is a self taught painter who wanted to bring depth and texture to
her travel art photography. She started experimenting first by heat
transferring her images onto watercolor paper then onto stone and now
incorporating it onto her painted canvasses.
Like her photographic images she has the ability to bring soul to her
paintings. She does this by capturing the beauty and solitude of landscapes
and personalities of people from across the world. “To express and share
what I see through my lens is a joy for me” Wilson humbly credits her
natural talent to her religious beliefs. Spirituality weaves its way into
Sandi for the past few years has been extensively working in Encaustic medium (beeswax, resin and pigments melted) which allows layers to be built up, objects and images to be embedded within the abstract painting.
Being a professional photographer for over 24 years Sandi sometimes incorporates her photography skills to transfer details onto her encaustic paintings. She has been a part of numerous groups and personal one woman shows over the past 15 years.
Sandi was commissioned to do a series of 6 - 36x36 Bio Painting Panels for the new library wing at the prestigious St. John's College High School in Washington D.C. The panels highlight the past 160 years of St. John's rich history.
Sandi was commissioned to do a triptych for the newly built Alpha Commons lobby at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital in Baltimore MD.
Sandi's paintings are on display at Magnolia Designs in Balitimore, Maryland. Her works are also available for sale at Urban Country in Bethesda, MD.
Sandi has been a featured artist on the Highlandtown Arts website and interviewed for The Simply Inspired Home. See a news article about Sandi and her photography.
